The Aurora Lifestyle - Pilates

PILATES

Pilates is a mind-body connection exercise evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates. It teaches you body awareness, good posture and graceful flowing movements by using lateral breathing, activating core muscles and stabilising your body, allowing you to do certain activities effectively and pain free. It gives you optimum results in a minimum time.

The Benefits of Pilates

The exercises are lying down in an anatomically correct position, where you can easily feel any imbalances in muscles and posture. There is less influence of gravity so the body aligns faster.

The muscles are worked from the inside to the outside to help the stabilising muscle groups work more efficiently.

There is co-ordination between mind, body and spirit. People with greater integration of the mind have better health.

Pilates improves breathing and breath control, Breathing and abdominal support is emphasised in every sequence which contribute to a long-term change on the body pattern.

The abdominals are strengthened to provide support for lower back, pelvic and abdominal control.

Pilates isolates and strengthens the weaker muscles which gives an injury time to heal.

EQUIPILATES

Equipilates is movement and alignment therapy for riders developed by Lindsay Wilcox-Reid. It’s multi-faceted approach improves postural alignment, partnership and performance.

Whether you enjoy weekend hacking, competing at local level or are an international rider, Equipilates teachers will help you to ‘fine tune’ your body into a more efficient, more effective, more flexible, more balanced, more elegant, functionally stronger and yet also more relaxed version of yourself.

EQUIPILATES/NORMAL PILATES – WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Equipilates is different to normal Pilates, as it is partially tailored for the rider’s needs. It promotes optimal function in the muscles a rider really needs for support, and releases the muscle groups which tend to overwork or be too sleepy!! As well as delivering all the benefits of Pilates, it also includes intrinsic biomechanics screening, plus techniques and exercises for other bodywork and movement modalities, which are not found in pure Pilates but which are really effective for improving your riding. Taught by riders, for riders, Equipilates programmes are based around ensuring better biomechanical function with the latest science based research before developing partnership and performance with the holistic approach.
